KARIBU means welcome in the Swahili vernacular. Jackpot Safaris and Tours welcomes you to Zanzibar, the majestic spice island of the Indian Ocean. These are two main islands of Unguja and Pemba. Over centuries different cultures have influenced Zanzibar to become what it is today. Sumerians, Assyrians, Egyptians, Phonecians, Indians, Chinese, Persians, Portuguese, Omani Arabs, Dutch and British have settled here at one time or another and influenced the local culture into the present fusion.
Zanzibar makes a great place to relax before and/or after your Safari with Jackpot. At Jackpot Safaris and Tours we are Zanzibar experts, we can arrange your Zanzibar holiday for you.
Whether you are after a 5 star experience with night life and action, or a remote out of the way part of the Island for a romantic, quiet retreat and everything in between. The coral reefs that surround the East Coast are rich in marine diversity, and make Zanzibar an ideal location for snorkelling and scuba diving.
We know the Island and what is available we can arrange scuba diving for novices and experts alike, snorkeling, deep sea fishing and other excursions according to your needs.
There are no large wild animals in Zanzibar, and forest areas such as Jozani are inhabited by monkeys, bush-pigs and small antelopes. Civets - and according to rumour, the elusive Zanzibar leopard. Various species of mongoose can also be found on the island. There is a wide variety of bird life, and a large number of butterflies in rural areas.
Would you like to swim with dolphins, go windsurfing, sailing on a Dhow? Perhaps you would like to do a tour of a spice farm or take in the sites in Stone town. We can even book you flights from Arusha to Zanzibar that connect with your arriving or departing flights from Tanzania if you wish.
Zanzibar's local people are an incredible mixture of ethnic backgrounds, indicative of its colourful history. Islam is the dominant religion, and practiced by most Zanzibaris, although there are also followers of Christianity and Hinduism. Population is estimated at 800,000 with the largest concentration being in Stone Town which has approximately 100,000 inhabitants. Zanzibaris, like other Tanzanians speak Swahili (known locally as Kiswahili), a language which is spoken extensively in East Africa. Many believe that the purest form is spoken in Zanzibar as it is the birth place of the language.
Zanzibar's most famous event is the Zanzibar International Film Festival, also known as the Festival of the Dhow Countries. Every July, this event showcases the best of the Swahili Coast arts scene, including Zanzibar's favourite music,Taarab.
