You have always wanted to experience -- really experience -- Africa, join us and get to know Africa through her people and rural villages. Use your skills to improve the lives of children and their families as a volunteer in Tanzania.

Main Work Projects: The emphasis is on education - teaching, public health, and building & repair. Help in building, installation of water systems, irrigation scheme, educate on HIV/AIDS awareness and assist with a variety of other tasks related to the maintenance and expansion of the schools/Orphanages and villages. However, in the remote villages, . Physicians, nurses, dentists and physical therapists serve at rural clinics performing examinations and well-baby checkups and offering public health education. Volunteers also provide basic instruction on portable computers donated through volunteers' efforts.

Your Host:
Your host is Jackpot Tours and Safaris, Tanzania who coordinate with local organizations that are on the ground doing the work of human, village and economic development. In Tanzania, the community plays a major role in this effort. Each volunteer lives with a local family as a member of the household. The families have received training on how to accommodate guests and will provide meals consist of traditional foods such as banana stew, rice, and ugali (a maize based porridge) amongst others. You will be eating what the family eats, with the foodstuffs grown locally.

Importance of Volunteers:
It is important to participate on a service project and make a difference. Tanzania is one of the economically poorest countries in the world. As reported by the World Bank, 51% of the population are below the national poverty line, life expectancy is only 45 years, 31% of children under five suffer from malnutrition, and 33% of school-aged kids doesn’t attend school. This is more worse in the rural areas. However, the people of Tanzania are trying to turn those statistics around, and volunteers to the host villages make a huge contribution.
